Hi, I'm Margot

She/Her | Bediagal Country

I’m a Sydney based professional photographer and teacher of photography with over 10 years of industry experience.

Growing up in the Illawarra region of NSW in a music and arts environment, photography was something that I was always interested in but never had the opportunity to pursue. It wasn’t until I was an adult that my passion for photography emerged at the same time as my love for travel. I found myself wanting a way to record my travel experiences in a more proficient and dynamic way than simple point and shoot photos or ‘happy snaps’. This desire to know more, led me to study photography at the highly regarded Sydney Institute of TAFE, gaining the Diploma of Photography in 2008.

My studies enabled me to explore a broad range of subject matter in a professional capacity, including studio products, portraiture, events, corporate, editorial, architecture, interiors, food, and even a wedding or two. However it is travel photography that is a strongly recurring theme in both my professional and personal life and remains a big part of my life. This is because it encompasses the themes that I appreciate photographing the most: architecture, landscapes, people and culture.

In the ensuing years I have travelled extensively and during some of my travels, I had the opportunity to teach English and Photography for a period of time in Cambodia. I found this experience to be very fulfilling and extremely rewarding. So, after travelling the world for almost 18 months during 2013 and 2014 I returned home to Sydney and took up a role teaching photography at the Sydney Institute of TAFE. This role enables me to share my knowledge, experience and skills with others who share my passion for photography, whilst still pursuing my own photographic practice.

I am a strong believer that we never stop learning, so in the spirit of this belief, in 2020 I commenced studying a Bachelor of Creative Industries (Design and Visual Arts) at Charles Sturt University.
